OSU catcher Adley Rutschman works with OSU pitcher Grant Gambrell at the NCAA Regionals in Goss Stadium on June 1st, 2019.

Former Oregon State Baseball catcher Adley Rutschman won two accolades at the end of June to sweep the possible awards available for a position player.

Rutschman officially signed with the Baltimore Orioles as of June 24, 2019. His $8.1 million signing bonus as the number one pick of the 2019 MLB Draft is the highest signing bonus to date, beating out former UCLA pitcher Gerrit Cole’s $8 million signing bonus in 2011.

Additionally, Rutschman won the final Player of the Year Award from American Baseball Coaches Association. Rutschman won Player of the Year from all major programs and organizations with this award on June 26, 2019.

Rutschman was also awarded with the Buster Posey Award on June 27, 2019, which honors the best catcher in the country. The award was recently renamed this year after the former Florida State and current San Francisco catcher Buster Posey.

These awards give Rutschman every possible award for a position player. Rutschman will begin his career in the Baltimore Orioles Minor Leagues in the coming weeks.
